Malaysia’s Berseh Movement
As I took a stroll through Kuala Lumpur’s Dataran Merdeka (or, Independence Square), I came across a handful of tents which that very moment began the form the occupy movement in Malaysia. This was a day of hope because as few number of people who came to protest the government’s education loan system, their hearts were in a positive place as we discuss some of the issues regarding Chinese Malaysians, students and state power. Since April 14, students demanding free education have been peacefully occupying Dataran Merdeka.
